Temporary support during the wall restoration at Mouns Jones House in Morlatton Village, Douglassville, PA. This structure [see conceptual drawing MJH shor scaff, 020414 ] combines: (A) the “raking” shores necessary to support the portion of the roof thrusts previously supported by the stone wall ranges removed during this project, (B) the cantilevered supports [“needled beams”] inserted under the rafter plates to support the gravitational component of the roof loads, (C) a scaffolding base for the plank-and-plywood work-floor for the masons and carpenters, and (D) a wooden deck for storage of stones and other material and tools during dismantling and reconstruction of the displaced wall. This exterior shoring system was preceded by an interior set of posts [“dead shores”] placed under the joists supporting the 2d and 3d [attic] floors [see shoring detail Drawings dated 010614 and 020714]. The relationship of the rafters, rafter plate, floor joists, and floor boards is shown approximately in the attached Field Notes Drawing dated 2/7/14.
