Description
Photocopy of an eight-page data sheet prepared by Barry K. Stover for Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS). Form was prepared in order to update existing HABS information for Keim "Cabin"{n} already on file at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. This information was never filed with HABS.
Also see KCFN1--1002.01.083 for measured field notes drawings created by Barry Stover to accompany these data sheets.
{n} Although this ancillary structure was called a "cabin" in these HABS documents and in earlier interpretations of its purposes, research by Philip Pendleton has established that the rather diminutive banked building housed: a storage cellar and farmstead kitchen on the ground floor ["cellar"], a wood-turner's shop on the first floor just above, and an attic granary [Pendleton, Philip E., Oley Valley Heritage, The Colonial Years: 1700-775, pages 90-92. The age of the building was also revised from the "settler's cabin" period in the first half of the 18th century to a date roughly contemporaneous with the 1753 farmhouse.
