Description
The survey drawing is entitled “A Draught of the Two Last Courses of Oaley Road to Thomas Miller’s [sic, Millard’s] Mill”.
The first leg of the extension, from the intersection of the “Oaley Rd” with the “Main Road to Philadelphia”, coincides with the “Main Road” for the distance stated on the Draught, and then turns southward toward the Schuylkill River Ford crossing to Miller’s/Millard’s Mill. The 2d course stops, aligned WSW toward the river bank, apparently at a pre-existing ford across the Schuylkill River to the recently constructed grain mill. The draft also locates the houses of “Mouns Jonas” and Marcus Hulyns [also, “Huling”], a decade later housing the first tavern in the village, a licensed “Publick House” known simply as “Huling’s”.
The sources of this draft [typed on this copy] are the Clerk of the Court of Quarter Sessions, Philadelphia, and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
