Description

Black and white halftone image from a photograph by Nicholas B. Phillipson showing a southwest perspective view of the Mouns Jones House. Details include: 19th-century hip-roofed porch, 19th-20th century fenestration, parged masonry walls. Compare window openings, proportions, and alignment in this photo to the artist's woodcut rendition [c.1886] in MJHDWG2--1000.01.089 and MJHTX4--1000.01.063; also photos MJHPH1--1000.01.001, MJHPH44--1000.01.048 & MJHPH66--1000.01.071; datestone [variously described as "granite," and a "soapstone tablet"]. Compare condition of the main roof, porch, pargeting, hung-sash windows, etc. to their appearance 25 years earlier in MJHPH65--1000.01.070, and in c.1911 in MJHPH1--1000.01.001. This image was published in halftone on a plate between pages 66 & 67 of "Old Trails and Roads in Penn's Land" by John T. Faris, Philadelphia & London: J.B. Lippincott (1927). Unidentified woman with handbag appears to the left of the building. Laurence Ward, Oct. 2010
