Drain outlet

Description

Detail of DTR09PH77--1001.01.166 showing exterior view (outlet) of partially excavated exterior aperture of drain tunnel. The bedrock floor of the drain tunnel was evident under the pool of water in the masonry opening at a depth [“invert”] of approximately 18 inches below the sill elevation, the same level as the bedrock encountered at the base of the excavation for the exterior stone stairs to the ground level kitchen doorway. This bedrock formation appears to be related to the same type of white-veined blue limestone being quarried [to a depth of over 400 feet from the surface] less than 2 miles south of the DeTurk site. See DTR09PH84--1001.01.173 for restored and modified drain outlet. See also DTR09PH80--1001.01.169 for interior view (inlet) of same drain tunnel aperture. Laurence Ward, 2009
