Description
The "checked" portion of the outlooker [left half of photo] is anchored into a mortise in the header just to the right of center in the photo, immediately to the right of the darker red fluid-treated portion of the outlooker. The wood end grain just to the left of the masonry along the right edge of the photo is one of the floor joists into which the header is anchored laterally with mortise-and-tenon joints. Because the bearing plate along the bottom edge of the photo is deflected to the north [right] the joist is no longer in contact with the plate and is borne by the masonry wall {1}.
See discussion of the sawn modifications of the replacement outlookers necessary to restore their horizontal alignment in DTR09PH110--1001.01.206.
FOOTNOTE
{1} A portion of the floor load on this joist is borne by the vault abutment wall [see DTR09PH121--1001.01.217]. The joist would deflect into bearing-contact with the upper plate in the east wall only when additional ["live"] loads are imposed on the first floor system.
