Michael Fulp House and Douglassville Covered Bridge, c. 1930s

Description

The proximity of the house to the bridge ramp suggested the name “Bridge Keeper’s House” despite the historical fact that the original owner, Michael Fulp, died [in 1808] about a quarter-century prior to the bridge’s construction [c. 1832]. The only known “Bridge Keeper” was Alice Garber, who lived in the house in the 1940s. The stove chimney, integrated into the upper range of the northern gable wall, survives in this photo, helping to date the photo to the first half of the 20th century. Larry Ward, May 2022
